Imagine this, you've just gone out on the perfect date. Everything's going swell from the dinner to the movie to the conversation. It's time to end the night with a sweet good night kiss…and your date turns away as soon as your mouth gets close. It looks like someone has a breath problem and a bad one too.
This is a situation you'll want to avoid so it's important that you take preventive measure to avoid bad breath. In order to have a fresh breath there are certain things you can do.
Practice good oral hygiene to kill the bacteria that cause bad breath. If possible brush twice a day and floss once a day.
Use an oral rinse.
Use a plastic spoon to scrape off white residue on your tongue as it is often the biggest cause of bad breath. If you don't like using a spoon you can try buying a tongue scraper at a pharmacy.
Brush after eating foods such as milk, cheese and fish. This is because the breakdown of protein in the mouth contributes to bad breath.
Keep yourself hydrated and avoid a dry mouth as it is an environment that promotes bad breath. If possible drink plenty of water and steer clear of alcohol.
If the above tips don't seem to be helping you may be suffering from chronic bad breath so you'll want to pay a visit to the dentist. Remember, bad breath can be a sign of gum disease, faulty dental work or some other medical problem. Certain medications, the onset of menstruation, drinking coffee, smoking and fasting can also cause bad breath.
For emergency situations you can get a fresh breath through breath mints, sprays, mouthwash and gum. You're welcome to them but remember that they can only mask bad breath. If you have chronic bad breath they will not help you deal with the issue in the long run.
